Pasquale Sacco Obituary

Pasquale N. Sacco 1922 - 2008 NORTH ADAMS Pasquale Nicholas "Pat" Sacco, 86, of 680 Ashland St., died on Saturday April 19, 2008, surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter Susan Rowe, 9 Summer St., Adams. Born April 6, 1922 in North Adams, son of Francesco and Maria Marchia Sacco, he attended North Adams schools, graduating from Drury High School in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the US Army Air Corps in the European Theater. While on his third mission during the European air offensive, his plane was shot down over Berlin, Germany on May 19, 1943, and he was held as a prisoner of war until finally being liberated from Luft Stalag IV near Poland on April 17, 1944 by a British armored unit. He was Honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on November 3, 1945, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. Mr. Sacco worked as a molder at the former Hunter Machine Co. for 20 years, and later worked in the control lab and machine shop at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams until his retirement in April of 1985. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams. He was a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club, all in North Adams. His wife, the former Josephine A. Girgenti, whom he married on November 16, 1946, died on March 6, 2008. He leaves two daughters, Patricia Prenguber and her husband, Joseph, of Clarksburg, and Susan Rowe of Adams; one brother, Anthony Sacco, of North Adams; five grandchildren, Kyle Rowe, Casie Rowe, Kirby Rowe, Joey Collins and Daniel Prenguber; two great-grandchildren, Jude and Braden Collins; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces grandnephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Kurt Rowe; four brothers, Peter, Joseph, Ralph and Samuel Sacco, who was killed in action in World War II; and two sisters, Theresa Thomas and Margaret Blanquart. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held on Saturday April 26, at 8 a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. Burial will be at a later date in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours are Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests memorial donations be made to the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion or the Berkshire Food Project through the funeral home.
