Irma Emerson Obituary

Irma Emerson 1926-2008 CANAAN, N.Y. Irma Emerson, 81, of Wild Wood Lane in Canaan, N.Y. died Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born on September 21, 1926 in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of Charles and Anna Dolowit. She graduated from high school in New York City and then graduated from Hunter College. Irma went on to graduate Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University with a master's degree in social work. Irma retired in 1988 from the Berkshire Center for Families and Children where she worked for over 20 years as the Director of Professional Services. She was a volunteer at the New Lebanon Library. She enjoyed reading and gardening. Irma is survived by her husband, George Emerson, the couple would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in July. She also leaves two sons, Fred Landa of Albany, N.Y. and Carl Landa of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and her daughter, Cady Landa of Andover, MA, as well as two stepsons, Christopher and Scott Emerson, both of Pittsfield, Mass. and two grandchildren, Paige Emerson and Max Castleman FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no public services or calling hours. Donations in memory of Irma Emerson may be made to the Elizabeth Freeman Center through FINNERTY AND STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230, who are handling the arrangements.
