Donald Smith Obituary

Donald J. "Donnie" Smith 1953-2008 PITTSFIELD Donald J. "Donnie" Smith, 54, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 28, 2008. Born on Oct. 15, 1953, in Portland, Maine, son of the late Ronal and Gladys L. Smith, the family moved to Pittsfield in early 1959. He was educated in the Pittsfield schools and was a 1973 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. Smith moved from Pittsfield in the mid-80's. He spent time in North Carolina and Colorado before settling in Roanoke. He was a master mechanic at TLC Company in Roanoke. Donnie was a 49er's fan, loved fishing and biking, and had an extensive Harley Davidson collection. He also enjoyed writing poetry. He was an active member of the Edgewood Baptist Church where he was baptized in June 2006. He leaves his loving wife of five years, Jeanne; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Marie Wood and Ann Rachel Wood, all of Roanoke, Va.; one daughter, Jennifer Smith of Pittsfield; two brothers, his older brother Lionel D. "Spike" Smith and his twin brother, Ronald J. Smith and his wife, Donna, all of Pittsfield; four sisters, Ramona A. Hamilton of Pittsfield, Donna L. Plankey and her husband, Christopher A., of Pittsfield, Arlene L. Solemani and her husband, Mohammad, of Belchertown, and Nancy E. Simmons of Roanoke, Va. and numerous nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Oakley's North Chapel in Roanoke with the Rev. Ellen Woodworth officiating. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. William D. Furey, pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel, officiating. The family will receive guests from 6 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you remember Donnie in your prayers.
