Arthur Gennari Obituary

Arthur "Arty" P. Gennari, Jr. 1953 - 2008 HOUSATONIC Arthur "Arty" P. Gennari Jr., 55, died Thursday Sept. 25, 2008, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on April 18, 1953, son of Jean Ballard Gennari and the late Arthur P. Gennari Sr., he attended West Stockbridge Village School, the former Williams High School, and was a 1971 graduate of Monument Mountain Regional High School. He also attended Berkshire Community College. As a child, Arty delivered papers in West Stockbridge, was a member of the Boy Scouts and was an alter server at St. Patrick's Church, West Stockbridge. At the age of 10, he worked for his father at Balgen Machine Inc., West Stockbridge. Over the next 45 years, Arty worked his way up to manager and to co-owner. He also worked at the former Berkshire Truck Plaza. Arty was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church. He was a member of the Alford Pitch League. He volunteered to teach and do metal work at area schools. Having an aptitude with his hands and being a master fabricator, he designed and made the 555 for the Housatonic Fire Station in memory of 9/11. He enjoyed fly fishing, auto racing and working on cars, but most of all, he loved and was very involved with his family's activities, adoring his children and always putting his family first. Besides his mother of Jupiter, Fla., Arty leaves his wife, the former Lois Roviaro, whom he married Aug. 27, 1977, in St. Patrick's Church; one son, Arthur "Arty" III of Housatonic; three daughters, Liza and Claire, both of Housatonic, and Nora Calautti and her husband, Matthew, of West Stockbridge; one brother, Christopher Gennari, of Great Barrington; three sisters, Diane Lehnert, of Jupiter, Fla., Charlene Gennari of New Lebanon, N.Y., and Pamela Bartlett of West Stockbridge; one grandson, Dominic Calautti, nine nephews and four nieces. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Arthur "Arty" P. Gennari who died Sept. 25, will be Tuesday, Sept. 30, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, with the Reverend William P. Murphy, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME on Monday Sept. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family requests that expressions of sympathy in Arty's memory may be made to the Arthur P. Dear Lois,
So very very sorry to hear of your loss. It seems like only yesterday all of us soccer Moms were traveling to games in fair weather and foul and either applauding a win or commiserating over a game lost. I know that Stevie very much enjoyed those times and all the time he spent at your house with the two Arty's and the girls.
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Lois & Family and Charlene & All The Gennari Family I send my deepest sympathy for the loss of your husband, your father, your brother, your son Artie. A dear friend of his sister Charlene I remember Artie and his great sense of humor that he displayed often at the expense of Charlene and I growing up! I still view photo's that Charlene shares with me when I visit and catches me up to date on the family and what a great husband and father he was. I pray for your strength to get through your dark times - take heart in knowing he is watching over you all.

Love,
Linda

When I think back to being a kid growing up in West Stockbridge, one of the first pictures in my mind is Arty riding his bike (often through the snow, rain, you name it!) to deliver the newspaper. He was one of the hardest working, funniest and smartest guys I ever knew. He was the kind of guy that would make your parents say “why can’t you be more like Arty?” And I'm sure many of us were inspired to be just that. Everybody thought the world of him.
It’s probably been over 25 years since we last saw each other but I wanted his family, especially his children, to know how much respect I had for him. It’s the kind of respect that years and miles can not diminish. It is rare that you meet someone who is so unique and special that it makes an impression that lasts a lifetime. But he was one of those people. It is with profound sadness that I extend my condolences to you all.

Years ago, Art attended the Father/Daughter Dance at Stockbridge Plain School with his daughter Claire. I was there with my daughter Katelyn. Although a few fathers gently grumbled about being there, Art expressed to me how pleased he was to spend that time with Claire, and how quickly time goes by. It was obvious how much he loved his family. I thought very highly of him.

Lois,
I read with great dismay about the passing of your husband Artie. It's always unsettling to see the name of someone you knew, and it's especially unsettling when you know you're the same age. I didn't have many conversations with your husband in high school, but he was always quick with a hello if I passed him on the street. I found him to be an especially good-natured fellow. Please accept my condolences. And I never had the opportunity to thank you for attempting to bring relief and peace to my wife Sandi when she and I were going through our horrible period. As Jeff would tell you, I carry with me much regret and guilt because of my actions during that time. I've lost family members as have you. You will survive your deep loss. I've always found that reminiscing about the good times I had with my loved ones brings me comfort and piece of mind. Hang in there.
