LEE -- John W. Murray Sr., 86, of 150 Greylock St., died Friday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 2, 1921, son of Walter and Mary Hall Murray, he attended local schools and was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he enlisted in 1941 and served in the European theater.
After the war, he attended American International College in Springfield, graduating in 1952. He received his master's degree in education from Westfield State College in 1969.
Mr. Murray was employed by Pittsfield High School first as a history teacher and later as school psychologist, retiring in 1986. Before that, he worked at Brown's Express in Pittsfield. Before the service, he was employed by General Electric Co. for two years.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Lee, a member of the Berkshire Hills Council No. 314 Knights of Columbus and of the Bishop Conaty Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
He and his wife, the former Mary A. Montini, were married Oct. 12, 1953.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, John W. Murray Jr. of Suffield, Conn.; a daughter, Michele M. Maguire of Sudbury; three brothers, Paul J. Murray of Huntington, Conn., W. Keith Murray of Pittsfield and Kevin B. Murray of New Baltimore, N.Y.; two sisters, Margaret Knight of Pittsfield and Constance Brandon of Laurel, Md.; and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John "Jack" Murray, who died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to St. Mary's Church, both in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. Jack leaves his grandchildren, Ali, Elizabeth, Kaileigh, and Anne, his son-in-law Thomas and his daughter-in-law Kate. He was predeceased by his sisters, Priscilla Pipp, Hope Cimini and Barbara Stack.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I am so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. He was one of the coolest of the neighborhood parents. Jack was always full of sage advice and understanding. A man I always looked up to.
