I just read about Karen and I would like to express my sincere sympathy. I kept up with things through the years by conversations with different family members. In health, Karen was an inspiration-as a dedicated teacher and a funny friend. She was more than an inspiration through her illness. I wish you all peace.

I speak of her often while referring back to those years. She was an amazing teacher. I am just so happy that I had the oppertunity to have her be a part of my life. May you rest in peace. God bless all of you.

Dear Mr. McPhillips,
I'm sure you don't remember me, but my name was Patty and I worked at Laurel Lake before I moved to New York in April. I just want to tell you what a privilege and a gift it was to know and work with Karen. I never once heard her complain; she was always upbeat and interested in everything and everyone around her. I am grateful for having met her, and wish you all my warmest thoughts.
Most Sincerely, Patty Bates-Urquiza

Karen left us too early. I am saddened that I did not spend more time with her, one artist to the other. God speed, Karen, and now you can paint the sunrise and the sunset for us.
