PITTSFIELD -- Walter E. Farnell, 95, of 57 Putnam Ave. died Tuesday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 8, 1912, son of Walter and Katherine O'Brien Farnell, he was a 1930 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He attained the rank of technician fourth class.
Mr. Farnell was employed by the U.S. Postal Service at the Pittsfield post office as a clerk, retiring in 1975 with 31 years of service.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
He and his wife, the former Vera M. Bull, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Oct. 18. They were married in Montreal.
Besides his wife, he leaves a sister, Mary Tobin of Naples, Fla.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside services for Walter E. Farnell, who died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, will be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 11:30 a.m. at Pittsfield Cemetery by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor of Sacred Heart Church. Family and friends are invited to meet inside the cemetery gate at 11:15 a.m. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church in care of DWYER FUNERAL HOME. Mr. Farnell also leaves several nieces and nephews.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
