PITTSFIELD -- Dorothy Ruth Saldo, 86, of 21 Forest Place died Tuesday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided for a year.
Born in Pittsfield on March 3, 1921, daughter of William and Hope Miller Peaslee, she was educated in local schools.
Mrs. Saldo was employed by General Electric Co. as an assembler for 15 years, retiring in 1982. Before that, she worked as a presser at the former Shalett Dry Cleaners in Pittsfield for 15 years.
She enjoyed sewing, decorating cakes, cooking and baking.
Her husband, Antonio J. Saldo, whom she married July 2, 1938, in New Lebanon, N.Y., died Dec. 8, 1992.
She leaves a son, Pittsfield Police Officer Richard A. Saldo of Pittsfield; a daughter, Suzanne Bilotta of Pittsfield; two brothers, Douglas Peaslee of Port Richey, Fla., and Robert Peaslee of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Joan Bertoldi, died in 1983.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Dorothy Ruth Saldo, who died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Joseph Nieves, pastor of Christian Assembly Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Saldo may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Susan; and two sons-in-law, Lou Bilotta and Livio Bertoldi; eight grandchildren, Leone "Lee" Bilotta and his wife, Lisa, Antonio "Tony" Bilotta and his wife, Leah, Juliana Bilotta, Jaycee and Andrea Saldo, Lisa Bertoldi and her husband, William Sayre, and Laura and Luciana "Lucy" Bertoldi; and two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Andrew Bilotta, children of Leone and Lisa. She was predeceased by a grandson, Livio Bertoldi, in 1982; by three brothers, William, Louis and Kenneth Peaslee; and by two sisters, Grace Beals and Marguerite "Peg" Keefner.
