J. Deer Obituary

Of Chatham and Millis, formerly of Rockledge, Fl. on May 19, 2008 at age 99. Beloved husband of the late Vivian (Nickerson) and the late Virginia (Tellegen). He is survived by three daughters, Louise Caruso and her husband James of Chatham, Susan Conte and her husband Frank of Millis, and Alice Fritz and her husband Carl of Chatham.; step-son Steve Tellegen of Cape Cod; three grandchildren, Kristen Sequin of Chatham, Matthew Conte of San Francisco, and Jessica Conte of Framingham. Also, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, brother-in-law Ian Mott of Chatham, and many nieces and nephews. Graduate of Wentworth Technical Institute and Bentley College. Late retired treasurer of the former Chatham Trust Company. Late 65 year member of St. Martin's Masonic Lodge, past High Priest and Treasurer of Sylvester Baxter Royal Arch Chapter, past Master and Treasurer of Cape Cod Council, and a charter member of the Cape Cod Commandry. Member Harwich Golf Club. World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Navy Seabees. Graveside services at 11 AM, May 30, at Seaside Cemetery, Chatham.

Mr. Deer,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Naval Construction Battalions during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. The Seabees were some of the unsung heroes of the War-they built airfields, advanced bases and naval anchorages and if they had to, were ready to put down their tools and pick up a weapon and fight.
