Jean was an inspiration to me in grade school teaching me to play the recorder family on wind instruments and taking me traveling to perform from Maine to Connecticut. She was way ahead of her time and I had the pleasure of meeting her father and mother on Borland St. in Brookline. I never got to thank Jean for all she did and not a day goes by without me thinking of her fondly.

Jean taught me to play, sing, and love music in elementary school in Portsmouth, NH. I travelled with her often as a child performing all over the east coast. I will always love and remember her.

My sincere condolences to all. I was delighted to bump into Jean a few years ago at Brigham and Women's Hospital, having not met since childhood. There she was a physician and me a nurse and we compared notes about our careers and travels. But Jean jumped immediately to speak of childhood. We remembered the joys of Dot Mason's Lawrence school athletics and the informal fun at "the droops", school concerts and her singing. I spoke of my dad's admiration for her father and his service to the town of Brookline. She wanted to know if I remembered "Devie"; and was so happy to learn that I remembered three brothers quite clearly from childhood. I reminded her my brother, Jimmy, was the same year as Devie at Lawrence . Jean was a gifted and compassionate individual, a rooted and realistic physician. She contributed to my childhood and validated me as an adult. I will never forget her. judy mcintosh

I was a childhood neighbor. In my mind, Jean will always be the younger sister to my friend, Deverton.
So very sad to think that they are both gone.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. So many of my childhood memories involved your family. Even though many years have passed, I can still see us as children playing hide and seek at your house, in the winter sliding down the hill, the tree park, students at Lawrence and the high school.
How fortunate I was know you and your family and know that Jean will be missed by everyone who knew her.

To the family of Jean Cochrane, please accept my sincere sympathy. I was a childhood friend of Jean's. We attended Lawrence Elementary School together as well as Brookline High School. As children, we played in the "Beech Tree Park." I have a fond memory of going to Jean's childhood home with Jean and other friends. On that day, Mrs. Cochrane had just returned from Jordan Marsh's bakery shop and we consumed delicious baked goodies. In fact, Dev joined us and ate a box of Jordan Marsh baked goods all by himself. Jean was a wonderful, kind and talented individual. My thoughts are with you during this very difficult time.
