Mirle Kellett Obituary

88, of York Harbor, ME, formerly of Wellesley, MA, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Methuen, MA, the 2nd son of John George and Mabel Turner Kellett and was predeceased by his only sibling John Heyworth Kellett. Mirle was a 1937 graduate of Searles High School in Methuen and graduated from Norwich University in 1941, commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the Army Reserve. Further education at McGill University School of Medicine was followed by a Residency in Radiology at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. He joined the staff of the New England Deaconess Hospital, Boston, where he became the Chief of the Department and retired in 1975 in order to return to his twin passions, practicing clinical radiology and living in his beloved southern Maine. For the next sixteen years he practiced at the Henrietta B. Goodall and the York Hospitals. In retirement he was able to further develop his enjoyment of gardening, as well as pursue his life long love of learning. One of his great joys was sharing his special home on the rocky coast with family and friends. Dr. Kellett was predeceased by his two loving wives; Virginia Tatham Kellett in 1978, and Virginia Williams Kellett in 1998. He is survived by his two sons and their families: Mirle A. Kellett, Jr. M.D. and wife Wendy of Yarmouth, ME and their daughter Jessica, Jeff and Liz Kellett of Walpole, ME and their children Heather and Bob. Surviving, also are his four stepchildren and their families: Bruce and Jean Williams of Cary, NC, Jennifer and David Pickering of Harpswell, ME and their sons Brooks and Grant, Laura and Robert Sullivan of Chelmsford, MA. and their sons Bobby and Corey, and Patience Williams-Whang and Brian Whang M.D. of New Haven CT. A memorial service in celebration of Mirle's life will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church in York Harbor, ME on Friday, June 20, 2008 at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, or Hospice of Southern Maine. Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., YORK, ME is directing arrangements. Mirle you're the reason I'll always have a respect for classical music in a still house. Great time for reflection and clarity.

One of many things I still hold with me, thank you for being an admirable role model.

Dear Bud and Jeff and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad will always remain in my heart...he along with my father (Dr.Kenneth Leigh) were my Thursday night date when I was a teenager after the passing of your mom and mine. Each week they would take me out for dinner at Lauberge Restaurant or ClayHill...it was a special time for me to share with two wonderful men...Your dad was a very special person, and his memory will live forever.
Fondly,
Nancy Leigh
