One of the many wonderful things about growing up on Bakers Island is having special people like Al Masse in our lives . There are so many memories of him , his sense of humor , his unique way with everyone he would meet---you knew his teasing would end with a smile ! I too remember his " Tire sandals " & his rope belts . During one of Thelma's shows , Al and his sister Jeanne Otto did a dance wearing Ballerina outfits and in another act by Al he was playing a washboard toilet seat ! How he added such fun to our lives. A special memory for me is whenever I would see Al anywhere on the island ,his first words to me were " Howdy Doody Dody !! " We will miss " Uncle Al " , he will forever be in our Island memories and in our hearts. Our thoughts go out to everyone in his family.

Thanks Dad
Thanks Dad.
Thanks for not getting mad,
but rather asking if I was okay, when I smashed up your car.
Thanks for knowing what's important.
Thanks for helping me to know what's important.
Thanks for wanting to be with me,
And wanting me to be with you.
You may not know what to say
Or how to connect,
But I've always known that you love me.
Thanks for teaching me what you know.
Thanks for sharing in the ways that you have,
Through projects, working together.
Thanks for teaching me that I can.
I can fix things, I can do men's work, I can sing.
I can be a kid, no matter how old I am.
I can.
Thanks for playing and having fun.
I still remember playing "hide the slipper"
And your slipper accidentally falling in the toilet.
Thanks for not getting mad.
Thanks for being gentle and caring.
I am such a sensitive being.
If you had been harsh and cold and mean
I don't know how I would have survived.
Thanks Dad.
Thanks for being you.
Thanks for being my dad.
I love you,
Pat

It just won't be the same walking by the Masse cottage at the island without Al on the front porch with always something funny to say! And last year at the pancake breakfast we teased him how he was our first&best customer each year! ( I have a great picture of him there that I will send you!) ..We will remember him walking around in his sandals made from tires and making the kids all laugh..he truly was, "Uncle Al/the kiddies pal"!
May all the many memories you have help you at this time...
He lives on his families hearts and all the people who knew him well.
Our thoughts are with you.

As a teenager, Al always told me I was two kinds of good; no good and good for nothing. But I always knew he was all good at heart. We will miss his smile, his humor, his teasing. Our thoughts to all his family.
The Island has lost an icon.
