Constance Porter Obituary

Of Wellesley and Falmouth died June 18, 2008 after a brief illness. She was 92. Born on April 13th, 1916, she was the oldest daughter of Ernest and Alice Kavanagh, also of Wellesley. Mrs. Porter was a native and life long resident of Wellesley and a member of the Wellesley High School class of 1933 and of Wellesley College in 1937. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Wellesley and a former member of the Wellesley Country Club, Woods Hole Golf Club, Broomstones Curling Club and the Cape Cod Curling Club. As a former President of the US Womens Curling Association, Mrs. Porter traveled extensively throughout Europe, Canada and the United States attending and competing in many major curling events. Mrs. Porter spent many years as a volunteer at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and St. Andrew's Church and was a docent at Wellesley College. She spent most of her summers at her Falmouth residence. Mrs. Porter and her family hosted a high school exchange student, Laura Taricco Vicentini of Bergamo, Italy during the 1959-1960 school year and remained in close touch with her. Mrs. Porter and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1987 in Menaggio, Italy in honor of the relationship with Laura. Mrs. Porter was predeceased by her husband David R. Porter and leaves her four children; Robert S. Porter of Bergenfield, NJ, Linda A. Owens of Dawsonville, GA, William W. Porter of South Weymouth, MA, and John C. Porter of Goffstown, NH along with a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Internment will be private at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley on Wednesday, June 25th followed by a reception for all wishing to attend from 2:00 to 4:00PM at the Private Dining Room at North Hill, 865 Central Avenue, Needham, MA.
