Of Brighton July 2, 2008. Beloved husband of the late Marguerite (Moore). Devoted father of James E. Welsh (BFD Rescue 1) and his wife Mary of Marshfield and Robert F. Welsh & his wife Edith of San Francisco, CA. Brother of Paul Byrne of Tewksbury, Arlene Plachowicz of Ayer and the late Mary Patricia McHugh, Winifred Morris, Fred, John "Jack", Edward, Robert, and James "Pete" Byrne. Loving grandfather of Jenna, Ryan and Alia Welsh and Maria Venturelli. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Dear friend of the late Nora Ennis. Funeral from the Lehman & Reen Funeral Home, 63 Chestnut Hill Ave. (Nr Brighton Courthouse) BRIGHTON Monday at 8:00 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Columbkille Church at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hrs Sunday 2-8 PM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. In 1971 Fran received Boston's John Fitzgerald Medal for Most Meritorious Act and the nationally prestigious Benjamin Franklin Award as a result of his heroic actions when he made his way with great difficulty through smoke & intense heat to locate 2 people on the 2nd floor of a burning building. Late member Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 14 Watertown. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fran may be made to the Buddy Dog Humane Society, PO Box 296 Sudbury, MA 01776. Frannie and I talked often on the phone.We had alot of laughts,but it never ended without him remembering the love of his life marguerite,your Mom.I know he is happy now. After 18 years they will finaly be together . again forever.She will be able to listen to all the stories of his day at the Fire House.She won't have to worry any more .He's with her and he is out of danger.

Jimmy and Rob, I am truly saddened to hear of Fran's passing. I will always remember him smiling and laughing at all those family gatherings in Franklin.
