Gerald Cooney Obituary

Of Marshfield, died July 1, 2008 surrounded by his family. Born in Boston, he lived in Marshfield and the Newfield House for the past 53 years. He was educated at the Roxbury Latin School, graduating in 1943, and at Harvard College with the class of 1950. He also graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking in 1970 and was honored with the publishing of his thesis. During World War II, he served with the US Army Combat Engineers in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns, and was discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant. He retired from the First National Bank of Boston in 1983, where he had been Executive Vice President, Director, and one of the founders of the equipment leasing subsidiary. He was also a former Director of the N.E. Assoc. of Credit Executives, a Life Director of the Hen Island Telephone Company, and a former Vice President and Treasurer of the Old Colony Harvard Club. A devoted sportsman and a long standing member of Ducks Unlimited, Massachusetts Coastal Gunners, and the Quail Creek Club and a past member of the Massachusetts Beach Buggy Association. He was a great lover of the outdoors and treasured all beautiful things. Gerald had a terrific sense of humor and lived his life with gusto. He had a loving happy marriage to his late wife Lottsie and leaves his two daughters, Dibby Bartlett and Holly Dubois, two sons-in law, Bud Bartlett and Richard Dubois and two grandchildren, Martha and Sam Bartlett. A Garden Memorial Service will be held at 3 on Saturday, July 12th at the family home at 66 Seaview Avenue, Marshfield. All are welcome. Mr. Cooney,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served as a U.S. Army combat engineer fighting the Germans in Europe during WW II-especially during the Battle Of The Bulge in in the Ardennes Forest. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
