James Barry Obituary
83, of Melbourne, FL, formerly of Beverly and Pittsfield, MA, died in peace on May 21, 2008, at the William Childs Hospice in Palm Bay, FL. He was a proud father, a Union printer, and lifelong Boston Red Sox fan... Known to family as Neil, was born in Beverly to the late James and Nellie (Hayes) Barry, formerly of Cork, Ireland. His late Sisters and Brother were Patricia Dipaolo and Joseph and Kathleen Barry, of Beverly. He graduated Beverly Technical H.S. as a printer, became Superintendent of Ben Franklin Press of Pittsfield, and later worked at firms in New York and Massachusetts before his 1992 retirement. Neil and former wife, Norah Mary (Griffin) Barry, of South Boston, were loving parents of Anna M. Barry and Leo A. Dirrane of South Boston; Lee T. of Revere, MA; Peter D. of Pittsfield, MA; and James J. and Patricia of Seattle, WA. He also leaves many nieces and nephews in the U.S., Canada and Ireland, including: Dennis Dipaolo and Jeanne Larssen, of Mason, N.H.; Marie and John Soucy and Brian Barry of Beverly; James Barry of Groveland, MA; and John and Ann McGrath of Norwood, MA. He loved his sister and brothers-in law: Carmen Barry and James Dipaolo, of Beverly and Peter Griffin of Galway, Ireland. When he retired, Neil moved to Melbourne. He made many good friends, enjoyed the beach, and Spring Training. He and Lee attended 2008 "Pineapple" League games. He practiced his lifelong interest in politics, photography, and his new hobby, the Internet. An avid golfer, he made an astounding four (4) holes-in-one since his retirement. Neil's children thank their family and friends for their expressions of sympathy, and will host a memorial gathering for family and friends in the near future. They welcome donations to William Childs Hospice, whose families and staff gave him and his family comfort and peace in his last hours (381 Medplex Ave, Palm Bay FL 32905).
