Dear Michelle,
I have just returned from the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Omaha, much sadder having learned there of Ken's passing. My wife and I always looked forward to seeing Ken and to talking to him at the Games. You could always count on a smile and a kind word from Ken and it was easy to see that he was loved by everyone he touched. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Ken made this world a better place and we are all better for having known him.

When I think of Ken Medeiros, I smile. Because, you see, whenever I saw Ken, whether in a wheelchair, walking with a cane, or proudly walking without, Ken wore a smile. There aren't many people you can say that about.

And, as though it were an exclamation point to the smile, there was always a twinkle in his eye.

I'm sure there are lessons we can all learn from Ken: lessons of courage, of forgiveness, of determination, and lessons of kindness. Those who knew him are surely better people because of Ken in their lives.

I admired the undeniable love and bond between Ken and Michelle, and I pray that you can still feel his love in these hard days, Michelle. Know that his love is with you and that God is with him.

Dear Michelle and family. I was shocked and so very deeply saddened to hear of Ken's illness and passing. Ken had been to me teacher, teammate, coach, and opponent, and in all these he was a gentleman and a special human being. I had known him since 1973 when we played together for the Brockton Mustangs. Ken was a star then and never really relinquished that standing throughout his career. He will always hold an extremely fond place in my memory.
