James Gleason "Jim" Dignan

James Dignan Obituary

62, died peacefully at his home in Charlestown on Monday, July 14. Mr. Dignan was born in Boston to the late John and Margaret (Gleason) Dignan. He was a longtime international banker in Boston. Later in life, he pursued a second career as an IT consultant and web developer. With a passion for travel, his work often took him to exotic locations in Central and South America. Jim was a lifelong resident of Boston and called his beloved boat "Irish Mist" home for many years. He attended Catholic Memorial High School; graduated from Nauset Regional High School continuing his education at Rutgers earning a degree from the Estonia School of Banking. An avid Boston sports fan and an often cantankerous debater with his many friends, Jim quietly spent much of his free time volunteering at local homeless shelters and at the Shriners Hospital in Boston with children who were victims of burns. Mr. Dignan's infectious humor and wit were matched by a generosity of spirit that touched the lives of everyone he met. He is survived by his four children, Sean and wife Jennifer Dignan, Chris and wife Jill Dignan, Kerri and husband Gary Madigan and Aaron Dignan. He is the brother of Patrick Dignan, Rosemary Baker, Kathleen Dignan, and Maureen Tympanick. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life at Constitution Marina, Charlestown, from 1-4 pm on Sunday, July 20th. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Jim's name to Shriners Burn Hospital, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA. For directions, donation info, and guest book please visit www.fjhiggins.com

From deep thoughts came Jimmy the Dig. Bank Of Boston late 80’s. Appreciated his trust and loose guidance. This man was cheeseburgers . And laughs.

Jim was a special part of my life growing up, and I loved his sense of humor, playing catch with him, and going to baseball games. Miss you, Jim.

Jim was a prince and one of the most thoughtful, charitable people I knew. A good friend and mentor, it was an honor to know him and his family.

Jim was the best boss I ever had. He was a wonderful and generous person. Although I worked for him in 1987-1988 I can still remember his infectious laugh.

Jim was a great friend for many years. We worked together in many parts of the world doing systems installations and eating Indian food (extra hot please). Rough on the surface he was one of the most generous people I have ever known and a work ethic second to none. I will miss his daily emails, his humor and friendship. Wherever you are Jimbo, I hope they have plenty of beer and Marlboros.

Pat and Family
I have many cherished memories of my time with Jim across from Irish Mist on E-Dock at the marina. Fish N Chips and Irish Mist had many adventures up and down the eastern seaboard. His smile and humor will be sadly missed. My thoughts and Prayers are with you all.
