Dear Judith and family,

I met Andy several years ago somewhere in central Ohio when he was alternate delegate for Area 53. We fast became friends. I will always have the memories of our trash talking as well as the serious conversations we had. I will miss my friend.

Please know that the saddness we are all experiencing now will one day soon be replaced by lots of wonderful memories. God bless all of you.

Dear Family, I did not know Andy very well but his legacy of service is clear in the number of heartfelt replies already sent. I would just like to send along my condolences and express my gratitude for allowing him to serve. Service work may be a sacrifice of our personal time but it is our families who sacrifice thier time with us that we owe our gratitude. Thank you again for allowing such a legacy of service.

Dear Judith:

It goes without saying that we wish there was something we could say to ease the pain you and your family are feeling. Our hearts are filled with sadness at your loss and we can’t begin to imagine the pain you feel now. No words can begin to express how much a part of your life Andy was, and will always be. Andy will be sorely missed by so many people. His dedication to his family, work and causes that he was very passionate about was evident whenever you talked to him. We have many fond memories of time spent with Andy and we wanted to let you know that our loving thoughts are with you. We hope you will call if there is anything at all we can do, but we also wanted to let you know that we are here for you. We will keep you and your family, Andy’s family and Andy, in our prayers. Peace be with all of you.

Andy was a dear friend and mentor to me in service and in life. Many hours of sleep were sacrificed in our latenight pursuits of the truth with a good cigar surrounded by friends and collegues. His influence in the fellowship was demonstrated again by the speed of countless calls that pinballed around the country upon his passing. He will be greatly missed but we will strive to honor his memory by suiting up and showing up.

Dear Judith and Family, I'm having -- as I know you are -- a hard time speaking of Andy in the past tense. I'll miss his presence, his laughter, his joy of living. He and I spoke frequently about the incredible family and friends that we each have. I know first-hand how grateful he was for you. It certainly is no understatement that Andy Talbert truly was one of kind. I am eternally grateful for his friendship and fellowship . . . you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

August 25, 2008

My condolences go out to your friends and family.

I met Andy through my "help line" phone volunteer service here in Columbus at our Central Office. Always armed with the Big Book and lots of good suggestions from "his home group back in Chicago" I had many deep conversations with him regarding recovery. I always appreciated his knowledge and his experience and like many have said...his laughter. He will be missed by so many but he is in good hands with those who have preceeded him to the "Big Meeting"...they have aquired another good member of our fellowship. He loved life and loved his sobriety and was a great example of AA...Thanks Andy.

I would like to extend a big hug and sincere condolences to Judith and Jennifer. I hope you find some comfort in all these kind words written here by so many different people - Andy touched so many lives. He really made a difference.

Andy was REAL. Andy was the real deal. He was fun and mischievous, and had a great sense of humor and a real zest for life. I will never forget our meals together, and I will miss Andy's chocolate treats at board weekends (he just referred to me as "Chocolate"). It won't be the same.

On another note, the poor man really will get no rest. I've already assigned him to some committee work from where he is. He'll be in good company with my brother and dad and so many friends who have gone on before him. I take comfort in knowing I'll see him there and join the committee at some time in the future. There's so much still to be done...

You will be missed, Andy, and you will always be loved!

Deepest sympathy to the family. Thank you for allowing Andy to share so much with myself and others. My life was definately made richer for the wisdom, guidance and encouragement which he so lovingly and straightforwardly shared. If you didn't want the truth as he saw it, do not ask the question. In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
