Paul Drepanos Obituary

DREPANOS, Paul, of Fitchburg. His favorite coffee shops are a little quieter today and the flag is at half-staff at Oak Hill Country Club to mark the passing of Paul Nicholas Drepanos, 92 years young, of 76 Drepanos Drive in Fitchburg. He was born in Longa, Greece on April 17, 1916 and emigrated to the U.S. with his mother and sisters to join his father in Chicopee, MA. It was in Chicopee in 1937, that he was introduced at a dance to his future wife, Freda Kandianis, by her cousin. They married in October, moved to Fitchburg, and raised their 3 children: Helen Darling of Baton Rouge, LA; Nicholas of Seabury, MA and Naples, FL; and Olga Drepanos of Boston. Paul will be remembered as a good and generous man who loved filling his house with the sound of visiting nieces and nephews and friends. He was a dapper dresser who had an enormous zest for living, quick with a quip, as he was seen zipping around town in the sporty cars he loved driving. Although not a big man physically, he cast a giant shadow. The funeral will be held Saturday, September 6, from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., FITCHBURG, with a service at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1315 Main St., Fitchburg. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, September 5, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.

One of my favorite days in my life will always be the day I played golf with Paul for the first time. He was my friend, he was my buddy and I loved him very much.

Dear Olga & Family:

Paul was my idol growing up in Fitchburg in the 1950's and 60's...a caring professional firefighter, and a cordial businessman. Always a smile; always a greeting; always a friend. This is how I will remember Paul. Please accept our sympathy.

The world has lost some sparkle- not the dazzling sort, but the warm, kind radiance that was Paul.
I can never play golf without thinking of him- He is the reason that my friends, hubby, and I became golfers. We loved Paul- always will
