Margaret Davis Obituary

DAVIS, Margaret Alandt 77 passed away September 3, 2008. She was the daughter of the late August and Margaret Keifer Alandt. She was born April 1,1931 in Indianapolis and was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy. She attended Butler University and was an invited participant of Harvard University's New Writers Symposium. An avid gardener, Margaret was active in the Horticultural Society of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Arbutus Garden Club and the Blue Flower Garden Club of Indianapolis, The Garden Club of Naples, Florida, The Garden Club of Martha's Vineyard, and the Royal Horticultural Society. She was a member of the Indianapolis Women's Club, The Dramatic Club, and Woodstock Club. Margaret enjoyed sailing and racing the family boat, "Margaret Dear" during summers at her Martha's Vineyard home. She was a member of the Edgartown Yacht Club, the Chappaquidick Beach Club, and the Naples, Florida, Yacht Club. Survivors include her husband, Edgar G. Davis, Sr; daughters, Anne Elizabeth Davis and Amy Alandt Davis; son, Edgar G. Davis, Jr.; three grandchildren, F. Alexander Polestra, Margaret Anne Polestra, and John Christopher Davis; sisters, Ruth Ann Ciresi, Catherine Bollman, and Patricia Connor. To her many nieces and nephews, she was known as "Beautiful Aunt Margaret" for her kind and caring love of family. Margaret had long visualized the creation of an "Indiana Garden" comprising flowers and plants native to the Hoosier State. Accordingly, donations may be made to The Indiana Historical Society Fund for Margaret's Indiana Garden. Friends and family may gather on Friday, September 5th from 4 to 8 pm in the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 6th at 2:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church.
