Alfred Verna Obituary

VERNA, ALFRED A., 83, of East Wareham, died September 9, 2008. He was preceded in death by wives Carol M. Antonacci Verna and Jane R. Goudy Verna and sister Marion Verna Russo of ME. Survived by son, Thomas Verna of East Wareham and step daughter, Cheryl A. Goudy Grams of Rosemount, MN and sister, Lucy Verna Groome and her husband Peter; numerous nephews, nieces and grandchildren. Born in Franklin, where he was a resident for more than 58 years. He was a 1943 graduate of Franklin High School. He then served 3 years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Wentworth Institute where he received his plumber's certificate. He married his first love, Carol in 1951 and his second love, Jane in 1982. He was a plumber for more than 30 years before retiring to Wareham in 1983. Long active in the Franklin and Wareham Elks where he was a lifetime member of 50 years and Exalted Ruler in Franklin from 1976-77. He was a former member of Little Harbor Country Club.His funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 in St. Margaret's Church, Main St., Buzzards Bay. Burial will follow in the Mass National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02401.
