Larue Alton Obituary

ALTON, Larue F. "Larry" 86, of North High Street, Foxboro, formerly of Clearwater, Florida, Hilton Head Island, and Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away on September 7, 2008 in the Southeast Nursing and Skilled Care Center, Easton. She was the wife of the late Douglas C. Alton, Sr. Born in Springfield, MA, on May 13, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Montague and Kathryn (Whitfield) Ford. Larue was raised in Newton Centre, where she was a graduate of Miss Choate's School. She later graduated from Stoneleigh College in Rye, New Hampshire. A homemaker, she also served as treasurer for her late husband's business. Volunteer work was an important part of her life. She volunteered for the Junior League, teaching ESL, and promoting literacy. She was an avid golfer, bowler, and enjoyed bridge in her later years. Her greatest gifts were the ability to easily make friends, sharing her smile, great sense of humor, and love of life with everyone.She is survived by her three children; Douglas C. Jr. and his wife Jane Alton of Stoneham, MA, Nancy and her husband Rick Schloss of Pfafftown, North Carolina, and Susan and her husband Jay Tedoldi of Foxboro. Also survived by a sister; Constance F. and her husband Svein Toverud of Oslo, Norway, eight grandchildren; Douglas C. Alton III, Alexandra W. Alton, Christopher G. Alton, Lee B. Schloss, Michael A. Schloss, Molly K. Schloss, Cameron L. Tedoldi, and Jordan M. Tedoldi, two nieces; Kirsten T. Severson and Kari C. Toverud, and a nephew; Jon Juttorm Toverud. She was the mother of the late Gregory F. Alton. At the request of her family, all funeral arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to: SPIN, Stray Pets In Need, P.O. Box 812143, Wellesley, MA 02482. Arrangements are under the direction of the Diamond Funeral Home, NORTH ATTLEBORO.

I am so sorry to hear about Larry's death. My family rented the little cottage on Water Street in Bluffton from your parents when they lived in the big house. They were both so kind to us and our son, whom at that time was only 3 (he is almost 23 now!). My husband was their pharmacist. Our thoughts & prayers are with your family.
