Elizabeth Kingsbury Obituary

KINGSBURY, Elizabeth "Betty" 87, of Surry, NH, died Sunday. Born in Medford, MA, December 16, 1920, the daughter of Charles W. and Sarah H. (Wallingford) Alexander. She graduated from High School on the South Shore in 1938, and the nursing program at NE Baptist Hospital. She joined the U S Army Nurses Corps, 67th General Hospital of Portland, ME. During WWII she was shipped overseas to England to care for the injured from the front lines of France. She returned the Boston area hospitals after her discharge for a 25 year career in nursing and private duty work. Betty met Harlan Kingsbury at a Boston business seminar. Friends for many years, they married on May 7, 1980 and moved to Surry, NH. Harlan passed in Oct. 1995. She had a strong love of nature and of helping people. Her deep faith in God and the skills she learned in nursing were always a part of her life. Betty was predeceased by her brother, John B. Alexander, who was killed in the Korean War. Survivors include a niece, Sandra and Dick Clarke of Framingham, MA., nephew David and wife Elaine Kingsbury of Hampden, MA, niece Judy and husband Harry Schibanoff of Hudson NH, many grand nieces and nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends who cared for her dearly.A Memorial and Celebration of Life service for Betty will be held at the Sturtevant Chapel, in Keene, NH Friday at 1 o'clock. Friends are invited. The Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene is in charge of the arrangements.

Maam, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in Europe during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
