Vincent Kelly Obituary

KELLY, Rev. Vincent J., CSsR Of Saratoga Springs, NY, 94, passed away Friday Sept. 26, 2008 at the St. John Neumann Residence. Born on Sept. 29, 1913 in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late William and Katherine (Hickey) Kelly, and resided at the residence since July 11, 2003. Father Kelly received an advanced degree at the Catholic University of America, taught at the minor seminary of the Redemptorists in Northeast, PA, and served as an Air Force Chaplain in the 1940's. He was a beloved parish priest and baptized, married and served generations of parishioners. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Marguerite DeJoie of West Roxbury, MA; one brother, Reverend John Kelly of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Somerville, MA, and numerous nieces and nephews. On Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2008), visitation at the Basilica in Boston, from 7-9pm, with a Wake Service at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Thursday in the Basilica followed by burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Redemptorist Fathers, 233 Lake Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Arrangements are by Burke/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (518-584-5373), Saratoga Springs, NY.

Father Kelly was involved in so much of our lives: from births to marriages to funerals, all the while being humble, down-to-earth man of God, someone to talk to, someone to trust. I think for many of us, he was an extended member of our family.
