BRITT, Joseph M. 93, of Acton, formerly of Lexington, Sept. 30, 2008. Devoted husband of over 50 years of the late Margaret L. (Flannery) Britt. Eldest son of the late Michael J. & Sarah (Belson) Britt. Father of Joseph Britt, Jr. Brother of Doris Britt Butcher of Bay Shore, LI., NY. James M. Britt of Maynard, Edward L. Britt of Medfield, & the late Mary Case of LaJolla, CA., Mabel Sloan of Nashua, NH., Pvt. Robert F. Britt, K.I.A. WW II of Acton, Marjorie Britt Thoresen E. Hartford, CT., & Helen Britt Cohenour of Houston, TX. Also survived by 5 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren & many nieces & nephews. At the age of 17 during the depths of the Great Depression, Joseph enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Working in uniform under the auspices of US Army Sergeants on public projects around the US, he sent most of his earnings home to sustain his parents & eight siblings during those difficult years. The owner of a successful area construction business, he donated parcels of land to the Town of Acton for conservation and town use.
