My father, Timothy Murphy, was very sorry to hear of his great friend Charlie Farrell's passing. They grew up together in Cambridge and, also, my mother's sister (my Aunt Irene Flanagan) was married to Rita King's brother Joe King. My parents, Timothy and Betty murphy will always remember Charlie and Rita Farrell fondly.

My Great Uncle Charlie was what every little boy dreamed his Uncle would be. He was loving, caring, and always had a smile on his face. He always made sure you were having a good time but always made sure you learned right from wrong as well. Thanks to Charlie, my summers were always filled with music, funny stories, singing, laughter, and fishing ... although we were never really good at catching any fish, but that was okay. I’ll also never forget seeing how in love Charlie was with Rita. It never took much to spark the two of them to break out in a little dance while making dinner or to burst out into laughter while playing cards or just a simple shared smile while working on a crossword puzzle together. In this day and age it’s hard to find perfect examples of love like this and I was lucky enough to grow up around it. Charlie is now resting with his beloved Rita and while they will both be very missed, they will never be forgotten. Their love and their laughter lives on though all of us who were blessed to know them. And the next time your up in Maine, and if you’re really quiet, you just might hear Charlie humming a little Benny Goodman to you in your heart.
