I knew Aunt Mildred from the many Thanksgivings I spent in Walpole, MA growing up. Every year my mom, dad, Grandma Caroline and I would travel from Syracuse to visit Aunt Carol, Uncle Tom, and cousins Kevin, Brian and Thomas. I looked forward to those trips every year, and the stories Aunt Mildred would tell at the dinner table (which always involved Maine). She was such a fun lady. I know she shared a special friendship with my grandma. Grandma Caroline recently passed away, but I am sure she was there to greet Aunt Mildred and that they are somewhere together, sharing laughs and watching over all of us.

It was a privilege and honor to have known Mildred. I admired her spunk and wit, her knowledge, kind nature, and sweet disposition. Death was a long time coming and I know Mildred was ready and waiting. May you rest in peace.

Death can never be the end.
Death is the road
Life is the traveler
The Soul is the guide
Our mind thinks of death
Our heart thinks of life
Our Soul of immortality.

Great Aunt Mildred, I'm glad we were able to share the last twenty years. I will truly miss your always smiling face, and your entertaining stories of you and Pop growing up. I know you, Pop and Nana are shining down on us, until we meet again. I love you.

My name is Toyin Oshodi. I was Mildred McCarthy's nurse at Youville Hospital and Rehabilitation center. Mildred, even at 95, was a very strong, smart and jovial person. I remember coming in to work and first checking on mildred, her smile brigthened up my day. She was always agreeable and well liked by all the staff members. I remember distinctively the day we celebrated her 95th birthday with a cake and staff singing "Happy Birthday". She was so suprised and her smile lit up the room, my eyes welled up with tears. Mildred, you will surely be missed. I am so honored and humbled to have cared for you during your last moments. May your soul rest in peace.
