I loved listening to him on Hugh Hewitt when he took over driving “the big bus”. He was the epitome of courage as he fought his battles with the disease that ultimately cost him his short but meaningful life. May his life continue to be a blessing to his family and all who knew him and heard him on the radio.

Dear Barnett Family,
My prayers are with you. I have been reading Dean's writing for years. He was the blogger who first got me into political blogs, and began my now insatiable addiction to politics. He was my favorite writer and pundit. His death has truly left a hollow place in my heart. I never met him, but his blog entries and writing were often the highlight of my day. Not to mention the treat it was when he hosted Hugh Hewitt's show. I felt like he was my friend.

I was a fan of Dean's through his writings at The Weekly Standard and even more so when he would sit in for Hugh Hewitt. I would listen to him as I was driving home from work. I thought he was such a great host and looked forward to hearing his take on events happening. He was smart, funny and interesting. I am so saddened at his death. My thoughts are with you all--god bless Dean. Rest in peace young man.

I always enjoyed Dean's writing, and I admired his courage. I emailed him once about something he wrote, and he responded graciously. Just wanted to let you know that he had a positive effect on a stranger. We are all diminished by his passing.

Like others, I came to "know" Dean through his guest hosting on the Hugh Hewitt show. How is it that we can feel like dear friends with someone we have never met? That's how it was with Dean. Even though it wasn't his "day" job, Dean was clearly at home behind the microphone. He was funny, insightful, and a Red Sox fan (a love I share with him and my mother). He will be missed. Thanks, Dean, for the wonderful example you set for us all of living the life we're given with all we have.

Dear Barnett family,
Although you and I may never meet - and although I never met Dean, he was a cherished favorite of my radio hosts, esp. when he substituted for Hugh Hewitt.
When I learned he was sick, I immediately began praying for him and you all.
When I saw he had died, I wept in front of my computer screen.
Although I am an Evangelical Christian, I immediately said Kaddish for him. The prayer is one I will continue to recite in the coming weeks.

My smile began when Chowdah began his three hours, "Thank you, Hugh. It is I, Dean Barnett, sitting in for Hugh Hewitt on the Hugh Hewitt show." He was in control of the "big bus" and I knew I was in for the best radio ever. His infectious giggle tickled my soul. I contacted him by e-mail and he wrote back pleased that he was likened to a "Tickle-me Deano" doll.
I always read his Hewitt blog posts and purchased his "plucky" pamphlet understanding then what a precarious hold on health and life he had. I became gravely concerned when I heard his kidneys had failed while in the ICU. I cried out to my computer screen after reading the dreaded news from Hugh. I read through tears all the posts about Soxblog. I knew the world had lost another great soul to heaven. Goodbye Chowdah. I really loved you. I will miss you forever.

My commute was always an enjoyable one, when I could tune in Dean on the radio. I learned so much from him - his clever wit and insightful blogging always managed to say what I was thinking and trying to say, but he did it so much better! My prayers go out to Dean's family. Thank you for sharing him with us. He was quite a guy and I will miss him.

Although I never met Dean, I felt close to him based on his writings that were filled with intelligence, common sense and incredible wit. I eagerly looked forward to his next post as I knew he would sum things up in a way that I wouldn't be able to put into words. My condolences to his entire family. It saddens me to think of the tough times they are going through, considering they knew him in person. What a great guy he must have been.

We never met you but enjoyed listening to you on the H.H. radio show. We gave away many of your pamphlets to our family and friends as we are the parents of two young adults with CF. You are our Hero! Miss your voice already. We will keep on fighting the fight and find the cure and know you will be cheering us on from Heaven. The Behm Family

Although I did not know Dean personally, I listened to him on the Hugh Hewitt show and fell inlove with him! His wonderful sense of humor, charming Boston accent, his intelligence, his good naturedness, and his great love of people. I've been praying for his healing and will continue praying for his family's comfort and grace. There is only one Dean and he will be missed immensely. We are most greatful for the short time with him and the gift he was and will continue to be.
