Mr. Long,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USN during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Dear Rose,
I was so very, very sorry to hear of John's passing. I'm also sorry it has taken me so long to write, but I have been having some awful computer trouble lately, both with internet connections and with email.
You have always been so wonderful at offering words of comfort to me at difficult times in the past, and I feel just terrible that in this dark moment the "right" words of comfort to give to you are failing me right now.
I am so glad that we were able to see you both last summer in NH, and though it must be of little comfort right now, it is good to know that after such a long struggle for you both, he is now finally at peace. May you also find some well-deserved peace , and may your many wonderful memories help sustain you during this difficult time. I'm always willing to lend an ear, even if it is from so many miles away. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
With much love and sympathy,
Janet and family
