Virginia Morse Obituary

MORSE, Virginia Payne Formerly of Concord and Boston, died of complications from Multiple Sclerosis. She had been courageously battling this crippling disease for 33 years. She was a devoted 3rd grade teacher in the Needham School System, where she taught for many years. After raising two children, she devoted her life to her battle with MS, by studying western medicine and alternative means of Fighting MS when western methods produced no tangible results for her. She was a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, where she majored in education. It was her love of education and Skidmore which challenged her to assist in developing the current Media Center Classroom at the College. She also was responsible for working with the Skidmore Education Department in launching the "Expanding Horizon's Program" in Schuylerville, NY. She also established the "John P. Shepard Prize in Education Studies" at Skidmore in honor of her inspirational professor and mentor. For the last 3 months of her life, her arrival at The Boston Home gave her a real opportunity for renewal of normal living, socialization, and friendships, which had been denied her during the previous decades because of her physical limitations. This home made her truly happy and at peace with her struggle. She leaves behind her husband John F. Morse, III, her daughter Elizabeth S. Morse, her son John C. Morse, all of Boston, her sister Carolyn P. Westhoff of Moraga, CA and her brother Guy Payne, III of Bellows Falls, VT. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date, In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Boston Home, 2049 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, MA 02124.
