Douglas Graves Obituary

GRAVES, Douglas C. Jr. Of Sandwich formerly of Newton died on Nov. 3, 2008 at home after a lengthy illness. He was 86. Born in Newton, MA he resided there until his retirement to Sandwich on Cape Cod. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force as a B26 Marauder pilot. He was a member of the 558th Bombardment squadron and the 387th Bombardier group. Mr. Graves worked as a machinist, owning his own business, as well as in the Boston Amtrak (formerly B&M) train yards. A beloved husband, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn (Acres); step son John T. Salmon and his wife Carol of Wilmington; nephews Dana Graves and Daryl Graves of Hoboken NJ and niece Tarrie Mercer of Grand Island NY. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren. There will be a private family funeral at the Newton Cemetery Chapel followed by interment with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Cir, Suite 329, Plymouth, MA 02360.
