Stephen Gorfinkle Obituary

GORFINKLE, Stephen Jay Age 69, of Oakland, CA and formerly of Swampscott, MA, entered into rest on November 14, 2008 in the Fruitvale Health Center in Oakland, CA. Born in Chelsea, MA on June 5, 1939, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Krentzman) Gorfinkle. Stephen was a graduate of Swampscott High School and Calvin Coolidge College. He was the loving brother of Laurie Hammer and her husband Avram of Marblehead, MA and the dear uncle of Ruth Hammer, David Hammer, and Judy Sturim. Services will be held graveside on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 12 noon in the Chebra Kadisha of Chelsea Cemetery, Fuller St, Everett, MA. Memorial observance will be held through Wednesday evening at the home of Avram and Laurie Hammer. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stanetsky- Hymanson Memorial Chapel, SALEM, MA.

I have very fond memories of 'cousin' Stephen from when I was little. I do remember that he was one of the first 'other' Steve's I had ever met - and this was hilarious to me that he had my dad's name! I remember him being serious, yet funny - and always ready to play.

He will be missed.

I have some great memories of Steve from our childhood. He was a good guy. At the 50th Swampscott HS reunion, a classmate remembered Steve as a great walker. He would walk for miles along the ocean. He will be missed.
