Mr. Lombardo,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wis to extend my deepest sympathy.

To Mabel and the Lombardo family,

Sal Lombardo was a legendary name around our dinner table. His name always came up when we pressed my father to tell stories about his childhood friends like Sal, Danny Spinosa and Peter Giglio.

Lately, I've been visiting my father's sister Rita and she has spoken of Sal often and the kindness he showed her when she worked in his East Boston store. I think she still has some second thoughts about leaving the store for a job at Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

On behalf of my Aunt Rita and all the Lodi family, we are thinking of you and salute all the great thinks Sal did for the East Boston and Randolph communities.

November 23, 2008

Dear Dennis, Vincent, Paula, and the entire Lombardo family,

I was so sorry to learn of your father's passing. He was a very charismatic man with an innate kindness within him and a great sense of humor.

The Lombardo family is amazing, exemplary in fact, and one whom instantly warms the hearts of all whom are blessed to know you. I have always been moved by your family's thoughtfulness, generosity, selflessness and goodness. You are all so extraordinarily special, and kind.

May Sal's spirit and legacy live on always, to enjoy and appreciate a beautiful life of family and friends, as well as the rewards of hard work and giving back to the community, to those in need.

It was a special honor to have been able to meet Sal and have him make me laugh too. God bless you all at this time, so very endearing the Lombardo family truly, truly is, and I am so very sorry to have missed your father's services.

Love always, I hope to see you soon.

My deepest condolences on the passing of Sal. I was his secretary for many years back in Liberty Market in East Boston! He actually gave me my first job and I worked there through college, for which he even gave me a scholarship to attend! I never forgot! He was a very generous man and well respected in the town of East Boston. My deepest sympathy.

Lombardo Family,
Please accept our condolences on the passing of Sal. We remember a lot of fantastic times but the New Years of 1979 at Lombardo's East is one of the best, when Sal came over to the coat room shortly after midnight with a bottle of champagne saying my girls are going to have a toast with me. We said no because our "boss" Paula said no drinking on the job. So, Sal went looking for Paula and said I am the boss and I want these girls to have a toast. Paula didn't argue with the "boss"! He will be missed by all.

Dear Mabel & family:
My family was very sad to hear the passing of Sal. The Lombardo family and Monteleone family have been very good friends for well over 60 years. I remember Sal's mother Nina Lombardo and my grandmother Mary Monteleone being as close as sisters. Everytime I think of Christmas I always remember Sal sending my grandmother a beautiful basket filled with wonderful food. Sal still sent that wonderful basket even after my grandmother passed away in 2002. I remember one Christmas Eve morning Sal came to visit my grandmother. He sat next to her in the dining room. He looked at her and said "Mary - When I look at you I see my mother" and his eyes filled with tears. He was a wonderful man who never forgot his friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
With much love,

Dear Mabel, Paula, Nina, Vinny and Dennis
My sincere condolences on the loss of Sal. He will be truly missed with his warm smile and disposition. I will remember the times at Lombardo's South being one of his cocktail waitresses for years and working many times in the coat room and front desk. I will also remember all the times at his home for private parties. Mabel, you and Sal taught me a lot about giving a party whether it be large or small and I have used that knowledge many times. I felt welcomed and honored at the same time.
God Bless

Mabel and family, you are in our special prayers for all of you today. Our deepest sympathies on the passing of such a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, etc.

I cannot begin to tell you how much it saddens me to hear of the passing of such a good friend to me, my family, and SO many other people as Sal Lombardo. Sal is a wonderful example of a man who always understood the importance of putting his family first. Even doing so, he always made his multitude of friends feel welcomed as an extension of his own family. Whether it was at the Annual Vincent's Nightclub Anniversary Party charity event (where he and Mabel would receive every individual before, during, and after the event), or in one of his lovely and warm homes, Sal always made everyone feel like they were the only person in the room (other than Mabel, of course). I will always fondly remember the way he showed such genuine excitement when my young sons would visit him. He had an amazing spirit and spark about him - both unforgettable and irreplaceable. Given everything Sal did for his family, friends, and humankind in general, he has certainly earned and will enjoy his special place in Heaven. God Bless you and keep you, and let his face shine upon you Sal.

On behalf of my family with much love and affection, you will be remembered always -

It would be impossible to overstate the uncountable contributions of Sal Lombardo to the East Boston Community. He was an individual of extraordinary accomplishments possessing a foresight and vision of legendary proportions. From the time of his conversion of what was an unsightly former coal yard in Central Square into Liberty Plaza up to the present his enterprising spirit has positively impacted the face and pattern of the East Boston business district like no other.
