Eugene Arthur "Gene" Long

LONG, Eugene Arthur "Gene" Of Wellesley, Massachusetts, and formerly of Newton, died November 20, 2008. He was born in Boston in 1914, the youngest of five children, to the late William Bennett and Lucinda (Sabean) Long. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Bradford (Hill) Long, who passed away in 2001, and the devoted father of Leslie Tarkington and Marcus of Greenwich, Connecticut; Lucinda Vietor and Richard of Wellesley; and Margaret White of Newton. He was the loving grandfather of Nicholas and Allison Vietor, and great grandfather of Sage; Christopher and Wendy Vietor; and Meredith Vietor. He served as a Navy Lieutenant in the Pacific in World War II. Gene Long was an entrepreneur who owned Long Mail Advertising in Newton, which for forty years provided development and marketing services to colleges, universities, and other non-profit and for-profit organizations. Mr. Long was a graduate of Boston University in business administration and classical music, and earned an MBA from Babson College in Finance at age 59. He was an active member of the Retired Men's Club of Needham.
