Jonathan Brooks Obituary

BROOKS, Jonathan K. Age 39, of Gray, Maine, most beloved husband, father, son, brother, and uncle passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at his home. Jon was born in Marlborough, MA on April 16, 1969, on his mother's birthday. He graduated from Rockville High School in Vernon, CT in 1987 and attended Roger Williams College in Bristol, RI. Jon was self-employed and proud owner of Lakeside Construction. He was a master craftsman, and his exceptional work can be seen throughout the local area. Jon was at peace when he was working and playing outdoors. It was his love of the outdoors that brought him to Maine. He was an avid water skier, and he especially loved barefoot skiing. He was so adored by his nieces and nephews, with whom he readily shared his passion for water and boating. It brought him a tremendous amount of joy to be able to teach them all that he knew. Always the outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, hockey, scuba diving, and downhill skiing. Jon will be remembered as a man with a big heart, who had an abiding concern for others. He enjoyed having a good time, was always happy and maybe even goofy. He truly was compassionate, sensitive, but most of all, dedicated to his girls and was a great dad. He leaves the lights of his life, his two precious daughters, McKenzie, 12 and Morgan, 10 and their mother, Abigail (Buxbaum) Brooks of Cumberland; his wife Stephanie (Goss) Brooks of Gray; his mother and father Deanne (Tatler) and Lawrence Brooks of Murrell's Inlet, SC; his sister Kimberly Bedard and her husband Steven, and their daughters, Marissa and Jennifer, all of Connecticut; his brother Joseph Brooks and his wife Pamela, and their children, Tyler, Molly, and Riley, all of New York. He also leaves many friends. Jon was predeceased by his grandparents, Dora and Barclay Tatler and Margaret and Stanley Brooks. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, November 24 from 4-7 PM at the Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, YARMOUTH, ME 04096. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 25th at 2 PM at the Cumberland Congregational Church, 282 Main Street, Cumberland, ME. A private burial will be held at a later time. The Brooks Family has created a memorial of Jon's life, and it available at: www.mem.com Please visit Jon's Memorial and share your condolences, memories and wishes with the Brooks Family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donation be made to his children, McKenzie and Morgan Brooks, care of Abigail Brooks, Cumberland County Teachers Federal Credit Union, 101 Gray Road, Falmouth, ME 04105.

Sorry to hear the sad news. I remember growing up with Jon and living next door. All the baseball games, football games in the fields behind the Brook's house. What a great guy and family.

He'll be greatly missed.

Warm Summer Sun

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.

John, Stephanie, McKenzie, and Morgan have become not only good friends, but an integral part of my summer life on the lake. To see John and the ladies of his life skiing and tubing around the lake, always greeting me with a wave and a smile as they motor past warmed my heart. In so many ways John has touched the hearts of people he did not know by being who he was. He will be sadly missed.
