John McMorrow Obituary

McMORROW, John P. Age 82, of Boston, formerly of Wellesley, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center, Boston. Born in Dorchester, MA the son of Philip and Theresa (Murphy) McMorrow. John graduated from Boston Latin High School in 1943 and Harvard College in 1948. He later received a Master of Arts degree from Harvard and a Master of Education degree from Boston College. His college years were interrupted with service in the Navy from 1944-1946 which took him to the Far East. Returning to civilian life, he taught English at Boston Latin School. John followed his father, Philip into political life when he became the state representative in ward 16, Dorchester and chairman of the Boston school committee. His father served in the house from 1939 to 1946. As deputy mayor of Boston under the administration of John F. Collins he had the opportunity to meet many dignitaries and most fondly recalled his conversations with John F. Kennedy. He later held the position of administrator at the Boston Redevelopment Authority from which he retired. John was predeceased by his parents, a sister Catherine M. Miller and niece Anne T. Streeter. He is survived by his sister Ruth M. Lynch of Boston and niece Jean Doane of Maine. Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, Glen Rd (at Washington and Ledyard St.) Wellesley, Saturday, Nov. 29th at 10:00 a.m.. Visiting hours at the J.S. Mr. McMorrow,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USN during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
