Dear Leary Family,
I cannot even begin to tell you how blessed I am to have been taught and coached by Ed Leary. His positive influence on me helped shape the person I am today. I will admit there were times (running 19 hill sprints after a bad loss sticks in my mind) that I did not quite appreciate the lessons being taught at the time. But I still use and pass along the lessions and philosophies he taught me over 30 years ago.
My thoughts, prayers and love go out to you at this time and I hope there is some comfort in knowing that Coach Leary's spirit continues to live and burn brightly.

To the Family - Ed taught me how to play 'powderpuff football' and I have a wonderful picture in my yearbook with him and treasure it everytime I open my book. He was a good kind gentle man. As I visit Acton many times a year I always pass the house wondering how he was doing. I would see him on his walks daily and was knew he was a strong man that wouldnt give up on his health. I am sorry for your loss and have also gone thru a loss on the 19th Nov. I will pray for your family that you get thru the rough times but remember all the good memories and remember how many people he touched in his life. Those are memories to last forever.

To Ann and family
My deepest sympathies to you and your family; Coach Leary was icon to us all. He was a part of what made me and many others. His thoughts, ideas, sayings, work ethics, and love of life molded me. Coach Leary I will truly miss the emails, birthday cards, phone calls and yearly stop-ins. You love and thoughts will live within me as in all my student athletes of the past 31 years.

Dearest Family,
I am so sad that my GREAT Uncle Neddie has died. I think I may have been one of his last "students". When I visited him on November 1, at his rehab hospital, he taugh me how to lift a hand weight correctly.I vaguely remember a Cambridge reunion at my grandmother's house in '05 I saw my Great Uncle drinking a cup of coffe with his cane next to him. I loved him a lot and will miss him.

Mr. Leary,
I will never forget how hard you made me work. I would come to PE and you would drag me into the weightroom. You would say "Do you really think that you have what it takes to play Division One sports being as scrawny as you are? If you do then you and I have a lot of work to do!"
I credit my physical and mental strength to you! You will be missed, but never forgoten...

Coach, on a snowy, Turkey Day in 1985 you welcomed me to a program which was much more than X's and O's on the field, which appropriately bears your name now. You actually introduced me to our extended AB Football Family. Thank you always,

As my uncle, Ed Leary set an example of life to be look at and be appreciated, I always will.
He was there for guidance and as a friend, no matter how much time passed between visits, he always had a kind word, gentle smile, hearty handshake and a laugh as big as life.
Even when I squared off against him on the field and shook hands after a game my pride would swell and spill over when I could say, “the head coach over there …is my uncle”…
The lessons I’ve learned from you I will carry with me all my life, and share along the way.
…Until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand…

To the Leary Family. My deepest condolences to you in this time. Although I never played for Coach Leary I grew up with him. I had the fortune to grow up with Sean and Maura while our families were friends and coached together. The memories are endless. He inspired me to become the man I am today and I am forever grateful. Not only has the AB community lost a legend, my belief is that the youth of Acton- Boxborough are in a better place because of what Coach instilled in us. Peace and Prayers to the Leary Family.

You taught me football. You taught me pride. You made me tough.
You made me a teacher. You made me a man.
A second father to me. I only pray that I can do you proud on Saturday.
Thank you for all you have done for our town, our youth, our civic pride.
In my head and in my heart always.

To Ann and family,
Words cannot express my deepest sympathies. Though I went to AB, I never had Mr. Leary as a teacher or coach, however, I admired and respected him. My deepest admiration came in recent years as I watched him walk around town with that cane swinging with determination. Ed Leary would not be beaten! You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

To "My Coach" and "Father" figure: You believed in me as a player but more importantly as a person. You will be greatly missed by all. Coach Leary always had an open door and an open heart to myself, and many others. I will forever be grateful for the help and support that you gave to me. To the Leary Family, the Knox family offers our condolences for your loss.

To many he was Ed or Coach but to the Foley family he was "Uncle Ned", a rock, a friend, a challenging conversationalist and a wonderful father, husband and brother-in-law. We will all miss him dearly but thrive from all of the wonderful memories that he has given us.

In the brief couple of years I served under Mr. Leary as student teacher he made a lasting impression on what a mentor, teacher, and coach should be. He always found the time to be there if needed. He will be missed, but will always be in my memory.

Ed used to have his players ask all their teachers once a week what their status was in each course. Feeling especially harried one day, I must have looked as if I really didn't wish to fill out the form. The student athlete Ed and I "shared" said, "Look, my coach cares about me." And so he did, as so many of his students and players will agree. Ed will be deeply missed.

Coach was a mentor to me not only as one of his players but later in life as an adult. He helped so many people during his life, I'm glad that I was one of them. I'm a lot better person because of him. I will miss you, Coach.

Dear Ann and Family,
Today I am mourning the loss of Ed, but also celebrating and honoring the example he gave to us. His courage, determination, pluck, grit and hard, hard work in the face of numerous and daunting physical struggles will remain with me forever. He will not be forgotten. His actions and the words he put on paper will continue to instruct and motivate. The sight of Ed briskly walking up Hayward Road with his cane in the rain, wind, cold and snow stays with me and fills me with admiration. He really is "Physical Ed!" My love to you all.
