Norman Cohen Obituary

COHEN, Norman D., 85 of Palm Beach, FL, and New York City on Nov. 24. One of the founders of Lechmere's. Beloved husband of Judith (Younglieb). Proud father of sons Douglas, Stuart and Scott, and their wives Janine, Anne and Ronna, and step children David Schalit and Leslie Siben and her husband Andrew. Passionate grandfather of Jeffrey, James, Matthew, Elizabeth, Caroline and Bethany Cohen, Jonathan Cohen and his wife Liza Perkins, Stephanie Misiph and her husband Josh, Odile Schalit and Michael Siben. Loving brother of William P. Cohen and the late Maurice M. Cohen and Nan Weinstein. Devoted son of the late Abraham & Tillie (Schneiderman) Cohen. Funeral service was held Wednesday in New York, private burial Friday in West Roxbury. His sons will observe visiting hours at their homes: Douglas: Saturday eve, 7pm in Lexington. Stuart: Sunday afternoon 2-6pm in Marblehead. Scott: Sunday 3-8pm in Framingham. All are welcome at a memorial gathering in Norman's honor on Sunday, December 7, at 1:30pm, Temple Isaiah, 55 Lincoln St., Lexington. Memorial donations to the American Committee for the Weitzmann Institute of Science, 633 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10017. Levine Chapels, Brookline 617-277-8300

I received much of my business acumen from Norman and his two brothers Phil and Morris having worked for Lechmere since 1956. However most of my interactions were with Norman and the fine thing about Norman to me was he treated me as an equal. Anthony "Shapiro" Tripari
Note Pop Cohen gave me the Shapiro name because he had difficulty in pronouncing Tripari

I am saddened to hear of Norman's passing. My father Stanley Rachlen worked with the Cohen family for many years at Lechmere.
