It was nice to be in Papas company and talk with him since he felt a bit like a grandfather to me since my own grandfathers lived in europe.
What I also liked about Papa was how he also reminded me of my own father Papou, since I believed they were somewhat similiar.
Whether it was their broken english speaking patterns, talking about how it was growing up in their villages, or coming to the United States and leaving the country they grew up in.
Hearing Papa talk about soccer was fun, but was more enjoyable during the Olympic, european and world cup games as he had the same interest and pride in that sport as Papou did.
Talking with Papa about making wine was also a joy since Papou also has a love for wine and likes to talk about how he use to make it along with chipiro (a Greek alcoholic beverage) back in Greece.
Even hearing Papa discuss his many renovations he did at his home was interesting, because it reminded me of my father since he also did some work projects through the years around his own home.
These are just a few among other reasons why I had a good time listening, talking and spending time with Papa.
Those times spent with Papa will be missed and he will be remembered.

Maria,
I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. You shared some special memories of him with me once, when he made wine.
I'm so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I'm going to miss you papa. On the day i heard that you were diagnosed I cried and cried. I didn't want you to die. The day that you couldn't walk or stand anymore was torture on me and my family. I was totally destroyed on the final day of your life. I was scared and sadder than ever when I saw my papa's nurse walk through the door. I walked downstairs just before that only to see you breathe your last breath. i didn't know that you had died. I went upstairs to drown my mind out with tv. I didn't know that you were dead. I heard my nona crying on the porch. Then my dad came and told me, and I cried. I will miss the times when you and I picked the beans and tomatoes from your garden. I also remember when i helped you make wine. I remember you puting me on a barrel so that i could reach the handle. I fell as the barrel tipped and you caught me. You taped styrofoam to a pipe that I hit my head on many times. My most cherished memory with you, papa, was when I was very young. I sat in your lap on your chair. I had a children's book that taught Spanish. We went through the entire book every day. I barley remember anything now, though, i do remember I could never, no matter how many times you repeated it, astronaut. I am really going to miss you papa. I really am.
