Elena Gardella Obituary

GARDELLA, Elena Shinn Of Fox Hill Village, Westwood, formerly of Weston where she lived for 52 years, on November 28, 2008. Born in Arlington on May 17, 1918, daughter of the late Edward L. and Marjorie (Verbeck) Shinn and beloved wife of the late Dr. Joseph W. Gardella. Devoted mother of David E. Gardella and his wife Nancy of Novato, CA; Josie G. Gardiner and her husband Ian of Annisquam and Boston, MA; Jonathan A. Gardella and his wife Ester of The Netherlands; Christopher S. Gardella of Villanova, PA; Amelie G. Johnson and her husband Thomas of Dover, MA. Also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Educated at Northfield Seminary, Mount Holyoke College, and The Katharine Gibbs School. She devoted many years working with her husband in his medical practice at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Her many interests included volunteer work at the Decordova Museum, painting, sailing, the arts and the opera. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 13, at 1:30pm in the First Parish in Needham, 23 Dedham Avenue, Needham. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. Mrs. Gardella and her husband Dr. Gardella always welcomed me into their home with great warmth and much love. I absolutely enjoyed every visit! My sympathies to my good friend Chris and the entire, great Gardella family. I am a better person for having known your Mom and Dad.
