Margaret Higgins Obituary

SISTER MARGARET HIGGINS, SUSC Died on December 3, 2008, after a brief illness. In addition to her Holy Union Sisters, she is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Edward and Ellen Higgins and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand-nephews. Her brothers, John and Thomas and her sister, Anne E. Green predeceased her. Sister Margaret entered the Holy Union Sisters in 1940 and pronounced her vows on August 26, 1942. She received her BA degree from Stonehill College and her MA in English from Catholic University, Washington D.C. Sister Margaret taught in middle school, high school and college in Maryland, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. She served as Provincial Superior of the Fall River Province from 1965-1971. She was a teacher and guidance councilor at Coyle and Cassidy High School, Taunton and vice-principal at St. Clare's High School, Roslindale. For ten years she volunteered as a teacher and grant writer in the HALT (Helping Adults Learn Today) Program in Mattapan. The wake will take place Tuesday, December 9 from 2 to 4pm at The Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., FALL RIVER, MA, followed by a Vigil Prayer at 4pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 5pm at Sacred Heart Church, Linden St., Fall River. Burial will be on Wednesday at 9am in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River. Donations may be made in her memory to: The Holy Union Sisters Mission Advancement Office, PO Box 410, Milton, MA 02186-0006.
