Paul Healy Obituary

HEALY, Paul R. 85, Ft. Myers, Florida & Harwich, MA, November 21, 2008. Born in Boston, MA. Beloved husband of Virginia. Son of Grace (Tierney) and Thomas Healy. Lived in Roslindale. Paul joined the Navy in 1942 and fought in the South Pacific. He was assigned to a P.T. Boat squadron with John F. Kennedy. J.F.K. trained on Paul's boat, the 114 before Kennedy got command of his own boat the 109. Paul and J.F.K. became quite good friends. After being discharged from the military Paul enrolled at Boston University and upon graduation went to work for United Fruit in South America as a Plantation Manager. After several years he then joined Budweiser as a New England and New York State Sales Manager. After leaving Budweiser, Paul opened the "Chuck Wagon" Restaurant in Harwich, MA. Paul and his wife Virginia decided to sell the "Chuck Wagon" and bought the Old Brewster Golf Course, now Ocean Edge. Paul, who loved to play golf, managed the Brewster Club and at the same time earned his P.G.A card. He and Virginia sold the golf course in 1976 and eventually retired to Florida. Besides his wife Virginia, he leaves his sister Barbara Caputo and her husband Adam both of Needham, MA and his sister Joan McCarthy of Nashua, NH. He also leaves a brother, Donald Healy and his wife Mary of Framingham, MA, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Thomas, Richard, and Robert.

Mr. Healy,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USN in the Pacific fighting the Japanese during WW II as a Torpedo Patrol Boat commander. The men who served in the PT Boats were some of the unsung heroes of the War-They served in plywood boats with no armor protection, and relying on their speed to get out of trouble-usually at night performing scouting missions, rescuing downed pilots and attacking Japanese supply convoys. And to your family and to family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
