I first met Colonel Gillis when he commanded Troop A, 11th Armored Cavalry; he was promoted to Major in Aug 1960 and assumed the duties as Executive Officer 1st Recon Squadron 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Straubing Germany. Both Colonel and Mrs Gillis made many positive contributions to the Military Community. His exemplary service to his country reflects great credit to himself, the US Army, and America. I was glad to have served with Colonel Gillis and he will be long remembered and missed.

Ellen and Family -
I'm so grateful for having had the chance to get to know your Dad -- I wish I could have been at mass with you today. I will always remember his kindness... friendly chats and notes, pancake breakfasts, the magic drawer, and much more.
Please accept my continuing sympathy and prayers. Let me know if you need anything.
Love,

To all the Gilli -- We were saddened to hear about the loss of your Dad. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. The Colonel was a positive influence on all of us and he will never be forgotten. I always remember him greeting us at the front door of 20 Lexington and reminding us that it was a "Respectable Establishment" and we had to behave accordingly. In his own way he let us boys be boys -- whether it was physical hoops in the driveway, funky jams in the living room or watching the Celts in the kitchen. I always appreciated the way he treated us like part of the family -- including us on road trips to Mt Wachusetts Film Fest, a Dover High ballgame or a Williams College graduation. As we raise our own boys I often think how good we had it in the old neighborhood -- the games, the laughs and the good times we shared with the Gillis Family. We're sorry we can't be with you this week -- but we'll be with you in spirit.

Gillis family,
Growing up on Lexington st. leaves me with fond memories of your father. He always had fresh vegetables and flowers from his garden and the best chocolate chip cookies for all of us kids. His kindness and genuine heart will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

The thoughts and prayers of all the Cushing Street Russells are with you all, his loving family, at this difficult time. The Colonel and your Mom were great examples and inspirations to all of you, and we are very proud and honored to be your friends for all these years. We will miss the Colonel in our neighborhood. He was a great man, of great accomplishments, and always had a good word to say. May God be with the Gillis Family.

Ellen and Family,
I am so sorry about the loss of your father/brother. I know he meant a great deal to all of you and you were very close to him. I will continue to pray for you that you have all of the strength and support that you need to get through this time period.
Ellen, I'm really glad that you were able to spend time with him in the past couple years. You will never regret being there. I think of you often. The Colonel was obviously a very special man whose personality and caring made you who you are today.
God bless you,
Peggi
