Barbara York Obituary

Age 73 of Maine, died Monday, August 20, 2007 at Beth-Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA following a brief illness. She was born in Portland, ME on March 3, 1934 a daughter of the late Thomas A. and Genevieve (Sterling) Walsh. Mrs. York was a graduate of Cony High School in Augusta, ME, class of 1952 and CMG Nursing School in 1956 where she earned her Nursing degree. She had been employed at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA for 30 years where she was Supervisor in charge of the nursing staff for Orthopedic Surgery and later became Supervisor of the White Operating Rooms. Mrs. York and her husband, Carl, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 15, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Carl E. York, Jr. of Gloucester, MA; her three sons: Carl Chucky York, III of York, ME, James E. York of Wakefield, NH and Donald S. York of York, ME. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Carl, Katie, Natalie, Nicholas, Emily and Samuel. At her request, there will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 27th at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta, ME. Burial and committal prayers will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Belgrade, ME. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Barbara's name may be made to: Massachusetts General Hospital, Development Office, 165 Cambridge St., Suite 600, Boston, MA, 02114. Please include Cardio Vascular Surgery in the memo section of your check. Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, MAINE.
