Janet, Bob & Rita,
We are truly sorry for your loss.
We met Dick through Janet, not knowing that he was Bob's brother initially, and had the opportunity to spend some quality time with him at several family functions. He will be missed.

Our condolences to Jim, Marilyn, and Bob on the death of your brother.
Our fond memories include going over to your Dorchester home on weekends to spend time with your family when we were kids. Too bad we didn't keep in touch over the years.
All is well with us and ours.

Although we only knew Dick for a short time he touched our lives in a very special way. It's not often that you meet someone you have an immediate connection with, but from the moment we met Dick it seemed like we had been friends for years. I beleive God puts people in our lives at a specific time and for a reason. Dick came in to our lives at a time when we were feeling like strangers in a strange land, having moved to Florida from NY. His wit, kindness, and friendship made the transition for us so much easier. We feel blessed to have been able to share some precious moments with him, however short, and will always remember his laughter and generosity of spirit. We were so looking forward to his return in October, and are sorry we never got to visit him in Boston this summer.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and Janet whom we had the pleasure of meeting last spring in Florida. Our hope is that your years of wonderful memories will help to ease the sadness and loss.
Dick - i'm sure the angels will be singing along with you in heaven. It's an honor to have known you and to call you our friend. (We'll keep a watch on the owls)

Our sincere sympathies to Richard's companion and Family. Although we met Richard on a casual basis, we know that he was a vibrant gentleman, a friend to many, and loved by all of those he left behind to mourn him.

I worked with Dick at Engine 20. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. He was a good guy. The sounds of his guitar are still echoing off the walls of the firehouse. He will be missed.

Dick, We struck up a friendship at the YMCA prior to knowing we shared not only a love for the same music and sailing, but that we shared the same profession. It's true what they say. Firefighters can recognize a good "Jake" when they see one. You my friend, were a good Jake! You will be sorely missed.

Dick's guitar strumming and singing made long nights at the firehouse a little shorter.

When I was about 8, my cousins Jack, Bill and I had been playing at a park in Dorchester. As we were leaving, a group of 15 and 16 year-olders were approaching us from the opposite direction . Nine times out of ten, such an encounter on a Dorchester sidewalk meant that we were about to get beat up.
Luckily for us, one of the teenagers happened to be our big cousin Dickie. He stopped and chatted with us for a few minutes. His buddies were imploring him to stop wasting his time with those little punks. Dick snapped back at them: "Hold on, I'm talking to my COUSINS!" Dick told us to wait there for a second. He crossed the street, disappeared into the corner store, then came out and handed us 3 popsicles. "You guys look like you could use these" he said before hurrying off to catch up with his friends.
I doubt that Dick would have remembered that seemingly insignificant moment from so many years ago; but I know for a fact that those 3 little kids never forgot it.
I bet there must be several hundred thousand similar tiny examples of that natural generous spirit. Added together, they define the life of a very unique person. My cousin Dick. A Good Man.
Dick was one of the most creative people I have ever known. Those same hands that gave us those popsicles would be found holding a drawing pencil, a guitar pick, a hammer. The results were often amazing. A portrait of the VERY young Rolling Stones. "Bob the Slob". A beautiful ski chalet.
Perhaps brightest facet of Dick's character was his ability to spread joy and laughter. My memories of Dick will always be memories of Good Times. Cruising the Green Harbor marshes in the "Pink Lady". The Cape...Happy Hour at Rascal's. Skiing all day, partying all night in North Conway. Elvis.
Dick: You'll be sorely missed; and you will never be forgotten.
It's Happy Hour in Heaven and the angels are boogying to "Bob The Slob". I can't wait to hear it.
PS--- I'm really, really sorry about the nail heads

Dick, you were a great guy who brought a lot of smiles & happiness to those around you. Christine and I always had the best time listening to you play your guitar and sing those Jimmy Buffett, Johnny Cash and John Denver tunes. We enjoyed being with you out on the boat, and will miss the "Offical Dick Davis Boston Harbor Tour." We will both think of you often and miss you always. May you rest in peace.
