Jeannette Lavine Obituary

80, of San Diego, CA formerly of Natick, MA died suddenly on Monday, August 27th. She was the wife of over 56 years to Sidney Lavine who died in 2006. The daughter of the late Bertha and Abraham Minkovitz, she is survived by her son William Lavine of San Diego, CA, her daughter Nancy Lavine-Anderson her husband Richard Anderson and grandson Benjamin of La Mesa, CA, her brother Dr. Frederick Minkovitz and wife Bonnie of Mashpee, MA and, her late brothers and sisters; Francis Fischer, Esther Shoicket, Morris Minkovitz, Rose Minkovitz and Lee Minkovitz as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces and numerous friends. "Minky" was a retired pediatric nurse from Framingham Union Hospital where she had worked for many years. Born in Needham, MA she was a graduate of Needham High School and a 1948 graduate of the Beth Israel School of Nursing. After her marriage to Sid, on September 4th 1949, they moved to Natick where they resided for over 40 years and raised their children. They were amongst the founders of Temple Israel of Natick and were both very active. "Minky" was very involved with the Temple Israel Sisterhood performing fundraisers, member welcoming and community efforts. They retired to San Diego in 1993 to be near their grandson. Upon moving to San Diego she was active with Meals on Wheels, became a Breast Cancer Survivor and supporter, and enjoyed spending her time with family and friends. A Graveside service will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday September 4th at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, CA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to The Jimmy Fund, c/o the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445.
