Susan Goodspeed Obituary

Of Epping, NH, died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 2, 2007 after a courageous 6 year battle with breast cancer. She was born June 23, 1940 in Winthrop, MA, the middle daughter of the late Arthur S. and Florence (Nelson) Tewksbury of Lynnfield, MA. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Charles H. Goodspeed; two daughters, Lee D. Young and Amy E. Dillenbeck, both of Exeter; her sister, Judith T. Melchionda of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, her two grandchildren, Laura and Jimmy Young; and her two nieces, Inga Melchionda and Ilse Kershaw. She is pre-deceased by her elder sister, Sheila Morrison of Wellesley, MA. Sue was a 1958 graduate of Wakefield High School and she attended Children's Hospital Nursing School in Boston. She was a stewardess with American Airlines for several years. She lived for many years in Kensington, NH, and was one of the founding mothers of the Richie McFarlane Childrens Center in Exeter. She later moved to South China, ME, where she enjoyed working around the home, tending to her flower gardens, and spending time at the family camp on China Lake. She eventually returned to the Exeter area, where she and Charlie spent several years designing and building their beautiful home in Epping. Sue traveled extensively throughout her life and enjoyed collecting baskets and western art. She will most fondly be remembered for her loyalty to friends, her adoration for her two daughters and two grandchildren, her devotion to her beloved husband, and her incredible will to live. Upon Sue's request, there will be no services. Brewitt Funeral Home, EPPING, NH is handling the arrangements.

I flew out of BOS with Sue back in 1961, she was a lovely person and very helpful to me as a new stewardess. May she rest in peace after all her suffering.

My last visit with Sue was an exceptional one in that she had so much to say about her family. She loved Charlie so much and depended on him and had so much fun with him and all his energy. She loved her daughters and felt Lee was a very good mother to her children and she was very proud of her. She was so thankful for Amy having new friends and doing her laundry and coming to dinner each evening. She was worried about her but knew she would be okay. She loved Laura and Jimmy and was so proud of them also. She couldn't stop talking about Laura doing her toes and how sweet she is. Sue always said how much Jimmy was a real boy and how helpful he was and he was very sweet also. Sue you will be missed and even up to her last days, she still wanted to go to Home Goods. God bless you Sue. I will miss our talks and your infectious laugh.
