Nana, I'm so happy to have made it to your 85th birthday party. In what little I knew of you didn't compare to what you meant to me. You encouraged me to play music and made it seem possible for me to exceed one day with it. This meant a lot coming from an honest individual of an older generation. I'll never forget the constant joy that followed your spirits. I know now that you are what songs are made of.

Ma - what can I say, I love you and I am so happy I got to tell you that just 2 weeks ago. I will really cherish the time I spent with you. You taught me to always look at the good side of people and never to talk down to anyone - remember - you have to walk in their shoes and I will always remember that a smile doesn't cost anything. You never wanted to bother us because we had our "own" lifes. Ma, my life will never be same without your smile and your independence. You are the "freedom lady" I know that you are happy up there with all your family, Judy and Little Bobby. I will always think of you when I am on a bus, swimming, now that I can finally do the Farren Float and especially when I look at trees. You always said that evey leaf was someone's soul and that's why they came back every year. And when it rains, you always loved the rain (it's good for your complexion you used to tell me) . You were my best friend and I will never, never, never let this family drift apart - Big Party Next Year on 8/18/08 (and don't worry I won't buy you anything expensive).

Nana, there are so many things about you that I remember and cherish, but the truth of it all is the person I am is in part due to your kind nature, your sunny smiles and your enormous heart. Whether 8 years old listening under the table on a Friday night while you, my mother and Aunt Valerie told stories of the days past; or at 12 years old at Salisbury Beach in the water floating happily and chatting about the beautiful weather and how we were going to spend the entire day in the water; or at 16 years old as an awkward teenager and you telling me how beautiful I was, or at 33 years old when you held my son and told me how happy you were for me - you will always be close in my heart and mind. I hope to possess half the amount of spirit and love that you so effortlessly engaged in your life. I will love you always and remember you forever.
