I have lost a very dear old friend, one I have known for 77 years. I was in the third grade at the old Stearns School when Mrs. Goddard introduced the class to our "new little Italian transplant". She asked if anyone in the class could act as a translator, and I immediately raised my hand in compliance. Not five minutes later poor little Ann was scared out of her wits when the fire-drill gong went off and I took her by the hand and ushered her out of the schoolroom with the others. We used to spend hours together in the "loft" at her residence at the corner of Green & West Streets talking about school, and boys, and sharing what very little we knew about sex -- that very taboo subject in those days! I will certainly miss the very closest friend I ever had in this world.

What a sweetie. I'm sending my kisses and hugs to you in your heavenly home, Antoinette. Thank you for all your love and good humor upon this earth and for keeping such good company with us. You will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to your dear loved ones.
